The Zion
Dear Family and friends,
I hope that 2013 is treating you well so far. I am excited to share with you what God has been doing in my life and where He has taken me up to this point. But even more, I am eager to reveal where God is sending me in the dawning of a new season in my life. As most of you know, I am the founder and president of Lighthouse in Action, a ministry with three different branches operating in Chiang Mai, Thailand: Wongen, Love Acts, and XLife.
Wongen Kafe is a place where students, missionaries, tourists, bar workers, and families can go to eat delicious food and hang out in a safe, loving, and Godly environment. There we have English classes, meetings, open mic nights, concerts, and even a church service. Love Acts is our Red Light District and slums outreach ministry. We go into the bars of northern Thailand and build relationships with the women and lady-boys that work there. Our hope is that they will see Jesus in us, and we can offer them an alternative to the life they are now living. XLife is our village outreach program. That is where the sex-brokers go to enlist the young girls for trafficking. Our goal is to change the mindset the parents have that selling their children is an appropriate means of sustainable income. By doing this, we attack the root issue of where commercial sexual exploration begins.
These three ministries of Lighthouse in Action have been up and running for nearly 5 years, and the Lord has worked in and through them to redeem countless lives. Our vision is to see the Thai people transformed by Christ from the inside out. We believe that God’s heart beats passionately for those who are rejected by society, and we want to be the amplifier that lets them know about the Father in heaven who accepts them as they are and leads them into a future full of hope and purpose for His glory.
The Lord has shown me tremendous favor in my journey and more importantly broken my heart and propelled my hands to act for God’s kingdom in Chiang Mai. He has recently blessed me yet again with another amazing opportunity, and I’m so excited to introduce to you Project Zion! In the Old Testament, Zion was a territory of the enemy that was redeemed for the Lord. That is the vision behind this project as well, to redeem the lives of those lost for the cause of Christ. Residents of Zion, who have previously lived in daily turmoil will be able to grow in their faith and knowledge of the Lord, work closely in community with other believers, and experience a lifelong journey for God’s kingdom. By the grace of God, I have recently acquired a 3 acre plot of land, about 90 kilometers outside of the city. My dream is to build a place of worship for the Lord there, somewhere to rest, refresh, and be redeemed in safety. The Zion building will be used primarily for discipleship and job training for those coming out of the sex trafficking industry and streets. In addition, there are a handful of university students who come to know the Lord through our Wongen Kafe ministry. Zion will also be used in the spring for college students to escape city life and join in discipleship training. In the summer, Zion will have more discipleship training, as well as CHANGE training for the women rescued from prostitution in the Red Light District. In the winter and fall, Zion will be a sanctuary for other visitors, missionaries, and staff to relax, spend time in God’s presence, and be renewed.
I am so thrilled and passionate about this new project and facility, and although the Zion project and construction cost is high, I trust the Lord will provide and meet my needs. I believe that one way He will do this is through the willing hearts of those able to give. Ultimately, my prayer is that He might use you to partner with me in this ministry, and I would be honored if you could do so through prayer and finances. My prayer is that He in return will also provide for you.
I must raise $100,000 to cover the cost of the land, for electricity and other bills, and materials and labor. You can give as a one-time gift or as a monthly donation, wherein you choose the amount and beginning and end date. If just 100 people pledge $85 a month for 12 months, I would have 100% of the funds necessary for the first year of Project Zion! I have chosen to share this major milestone with you because you have touched the lives of me and people within my ministries.
If you feel led to give, you can do so by mail/post.
Checks can be made payable to YWAM and addressed to YWAM SF Donor Services, P.O. Box 60579, Colorado Springs, CO 80960, USA. Please be sure to write ‘Lighthouse in Action’ in the memo section. Lighthouse in Action through YWAM is registered with the Internal Revenue Service and gifts are tax deductible.
If you would prefer to make your donation online, you may do so by visiting www.lighthouseinaction/get-involved. Just click the “Donate” link in the upper right side of the page under ‘Get Involved’ and complete your donation as instructed. I would appreciate any support you can give: monetarily and most importantly for prayer! I am so excited to see how God will move in this new project and in the lives of others in the coming year! I want to thank you in advance for your prayers and financial support.
May God bless you as you prayerfully consider partnering with me in this ministry.
“The spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me, because the LORD has anointed me; he has sent me to bring good news to the oppressed, to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives and release to the prisoners.” Isaiah 61:1
